Missing Discovery Bay Woman Found Dead

A missing Discovery Bay woman who was reported missing Tuesday night was found dead, authorities said.

53-year-old Ching "Ping" Chen was found submerged in the water behind a residence on the 5500 block of Beaver Lane in Discovery Bay at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening by the Sheriff's Dive Team.

Sheriff's deputies were using a drone and a dog in their effort to find the woman who was reported missing Tuesday night in the Discovery Bay area of unincorporated Contra Costa County.

Just before 9:30 p.m., a man flagged a deputy down to report that around 7 p.m. his wife, 53-year-old Ching "Ping" Chen, had gone missing from their home in the 5500 block of Beaver Lane near Cornell Park, an area surrounded by water.

Deputies were initially unable to locate her, and search and rescue personnel were still looking for her as of Wednesday morning.

Chen was last seen wearing a light green tank top, green shorts and pink sandals. She's described as an Asian woman standing 4 feet 11 inches, weighing just under 90 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair with blonde highlights.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of death.
