A little girl can thank her glow-in-the-dark necklace for helping authorities find her quickly Saturday night.
The five-year-old child was camping with her family on Kings Mountain near Woodside, Calif. when she somehow wandered off and got lost.
The family called 911 around 8 p.m. after they were unable to find her on their own.
Huddart Park rangers and members of San Mateo County Sheriff's Department searched on the ground, while a CHP helicopter took to the air. In all, about 75 people turned out to help look for the girl.
At 11:30 p.m. the chopper pilot spotted the little girl in a steep gorge area about a mile from the family's campsite. The pilot was helped by the fact that the child was wearing a glow stick necklace and she was carrying a flashlight.
The pilot directed ground crews who quickly found the child scared and cold, but physically okay.
The camping area is approximately 900 wooded acres and contains areas of heavy forest, vegetation and steep ravines.
