Ku Klux Klan Supporter From San Francisco Accused of Stabbing 3 in Anaheim Acted in Self Defense: Police

A Ku Klux Klan supporter who allegedly stabbed three counter-protesters over the weekend in Anaheim lives in San Francisco, according to police.

Anaheim police said Charles Donner, who lives in San Francisco's Marina District, acted in self defense at a planned Klan rally on Saturday.

The rally never happened because KKK supporters were met by an angry group of counter protesters. Three members were thrown to the ground, kicked and beaten as soon as they gout out of their car, while other members drove off.

KKK Grand Dragon Will Quigg said his arm is fractured after the alleged attack.

"I'm black and blue from being hit, kicked and punched," Quigg said.

Police said Donner fought back stabbing three people, at least one with the tip of a Klan flag pole. The three people injured are all expected to survive, police said.

Donner was arrested, but after reviewing videos police released him and said he was acting in self defense.

"They are entitled to live without fear of physical violence and entitled to act in self-defense when they're attacked," Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

Donner's mother on Monday night told NBC Bay Area her son is still in Southern California.

Quigg said his group's request for police protection was denied.

"Why is it that everyone has a problem with people who stand up and say 'I'm white and proud to be white?'" he said.

David Williams, who is visiting San Francisco from New Jersey, on Monday said he can see both sides of the legal versus moral issue of the Klan protest.

"I wouldn't want them to be out there, but legally they have every right to be out there," Williams said.
