The Contra Costa County deputy who drowned trying to save a friend was honored by family and friends on Thursday.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. in Sacramento, where Carlos Francies lived.
Francies died while saving a friend who had jumped off a boat in Lake Tahoe to save Francies’ sister, authorities said.
Everyone made it out alive, except for 30-year-old Francies. South Lake Tahoe police said he was not wearing a life jacket.
The late deputy worked at the Martinez Detention Facility.
