Leaders to Observe 2-Year Anniversary of North Bay Fires

Sonoma County and Santa Rosa officials will hold a brief ceremony Tuesday evening to observe the two-year anniversary of the Sonoma Complex Fires.

The ceremony is at 5 p.m. at Courthouse Square in downtown Santa Rosa. There will be a moment of silence and a ceremony with firefighters to remember the 44 people who lost their lives in Sonoma County.

On Tuesday morning, the county's Board of Supervisors called for 44 seconds of silence at the start of their 8:30 a.m. hearing.

The fires in east and northwest Sonoma County and in Santa Rosa broke out on Oct. 8. The five fires merged into three, the Tubbs, Nuns and Pocket fires, which comprised the Sonoma Complex Fires.

The fires burned 110,000 acres, destroyed 5,300 homes and were not fully extinguished until Oct. 31.
