The cold weather and rain did not slow them down.
Nearly 200 people camped out Thursday night and early Friday morning at Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose to register for their Holiday Food and Toy Distribution Program.
Many people say they are still not working or the money they make just does not go far enough.
Jay Pecot, the Development Director says they expect to distribute 4,000 food boxes to families for Thanksgiving and reach 3,200 families for Christmas.
They will give out 16,000 toys at Christmas. He says they are seeing the same numbers of people turning out. A recovering economy is slow to reach those here.
Families can register for the program, beginning Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. They will come back closer to the holidays for the actual items. Another registration will be held next Friday. Sacred Heart has a need as well: turkeys and toys to help make the holidays complete for these families.
