Firefighters Knock Down House, Vegetation Fire in Los Gatos

Firefighters knocked down a house and vegetation fire Saturday morning in the hills above unincorporated Los Gatos, the Santa Clara County Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded around 7 a.m. to a fire in the attic of the home in the 17000 block of Foster Road, according to a fire department news release. The home was located up a long driveway that was overgrown with vegetation and inaccessible to fire engines.

The resident of the home, an elderly male, was safely out of the home and uninjured when firefighters arrived. The home sustained major damage from the fire, which was brought under control at 9:13 a.m.

As firefighters battled the attic blaze, a vegetation fire started behind the home but was quickly contained.

The quick containment of the vegetation fire was aided by favorable weather conditions, the fire department said. "Under hotter, drier weather conditions, this fire had potential to affect many of the nearby homes," it said in the news release.
