Authorities Tuesday announced the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting four teenage girls in the Compton and Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles over the past 15 years, and asked for the public's help in identifying any other alleged victims.

Christopher William Roby, 39, was arrested in April in connection with the alleged kidnapping and forcible rape of a teenage girl in March, and investigators subsequently learned of Roby's alleged involvement in attacks on three other girls -- two in separate incidents in 2003 and one in 2009, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Todd Deeds said.

"We believe this man is very dangerous," the sheriff's lieutenant said. "We believe that he threatens his victims not to cooperate with police, and we want victims to feel safe knowing that the man is in jail right now."

Roby allegedly targeted girls who were 13 or 14, took them to secluded areas and sexually assaulted them.

"We don't think that he stopped his behavior during that time frame," the lieutenant said of the lengthy time span between the alleged crimes.

Roby -- who is charged in two separate cases in Compton -- is facing two counts of forcible rape and one count each of forcible rape of a child victim over 14 years, committing a lewd act on a child, kidnapping to commit another crime, distributing or showing pornography to a minor, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession for sale of a controlled substance.

He has remained jailed in lieu of more than $7 million bail since his arrest.

Anyone with information on any other alleged victims was urged to contact the Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau's toll-free tip line at (877) 710-5273.
