A man who allegedly shot and injured a property manager attempting to serve an eviction notice at the suspect's San Ramon home is set to be arraigned on attempted murder charges this week.
Mike Ghoneim, 42, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, including one count of attempted murder of a peace officer, stemming from the shooting Friday at his house in the gated community of Norris Canyon Estates in unincorporated San Ramon, Contra Costa County sheriff's and district attorney's officials said.
He is being held in county jail on $2.5 million bail awaiting his arraignment, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez, county officials said.
Around 2 p.m. last Wednesday, the 42-year-old allegedly used a shotgun to blast through the front door of his home at 3497 Ashbourne Circle after a property manager accompanied by two sheriff's deputies came to the door in an attempt to serve an eviction notice, according to sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.
The gunfire struck the property manager in the leg and he was taken to a hospital to be treated for the non-lethal wound.
The shooting prompted the sheriff's office to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents of dozens of surrounding homes and to send in a SWAT team and hostage negotiators.
Ghoneim surrendered only after deputies tossed tear gas into the house nearly four hours after the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.
No one else was at home with him at the time of the shooting.
Sheriff's officials said Ghoneim's home -- which is valued at roughly $1.6 million by real estate website Zillow -- is in foreclosure.
