PG&E crews were working Saturday afternoon to restore power to approximately 80 business and residential electric customers after a car knocked a utility pole down early Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident was reported just after 4 a.m. Saturday along U.S. Highway 101 about a half-mile south of the Blithedale Avenue/Tiburon Boulevard interchange, the CHP said. A car, driven by a 19-year-old man and with three 19-year-old passengers, was headed south on 101 when the car first passed a parked CHP vehicle and then struck the pole, bringing down live wires onto 101 and the adjacent frontage road near the Travelodge motel, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.
The driver, Dakota Severson of San Mateo, suffered only minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana and booked into the Marin County Jail in San Rafael. None of the car's passengers was injured, the CHP said.
As of late Saturday afternoon, 78 PG&E customers were still without electricity. The utility hopes to have power restored to all customers by 6 p.m. Saturday.
