Man Arrested for Hitting Man With Golf Club in Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa police arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting another man with a golf club Saturday afternoon, a police detective said.

Officers responded around 1:45 p.m. to a report of a man with a golf club chasing a man on a bicycle on Howard Street.

Violent crimes detectives learned the men got in an argument in front of the suspect's residence and the suspect chased the victim with a golf club but couldn't catch him, De Leon said.

As the suspect walked home, he saw the victim riding his bicycle toward him and struck him with the golf club, De Leon said.

The bicycle collided with a parked vehicle and the victim struck the windshield. The victim then went home for help.

The 33-year-old victim's family said he suffered a head injury and needed medical attention, Detective Hector De Leon said. The victim was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The suspect was later identified as Roderick Anthony Bell, 48, of Santa Rosa. He was arrested and booked in the Sonoma County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury.
