Man Arrested on Suspicion of Stabbing Elderly Parents in Sunnyvale: Police

A man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elderly parents at a Sunnyvale home Monday afternoon, a Department of Public Safety spokesman said.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Gabilan Avenue on a report of a family disturbance and stabbing around 1:30 p.m., public safety Capt. Jeff Hunter said.

The man, identified as 38-year-old Daniel Trujillo, was found in front of the home when police arrived and he was being uncooperative with the officers, who soon after took him into custody, Hunter said.

Trujillo's parents, who are in their late 70s to early 80s, were transported to area hospitals for treatment and are in stable condition, Hunter said.

Investigators recovered the knife they believe Trujillo used in the alleged crime, according to Hunter.

A shelter-in-place order was briefly called for at Vargas Elementary School at 1054 Carson Drive, which is about three blocks away from the home, while the officers responded and arrested the suspect, public safety officials said.
