Man Critically Injured When Hit by Pickup in Crosswalk in Vallejo

A pedestrian was listed in critical condition Sunday night after being struck by a pickup truck that morning, Vallejo police said.

A 67-year-old Vallejo man whose name was not released was crossing Broadway Street at Nebraska Street in central Vallejo at about 8:40 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a red Ford pickup turning right from eastbound

Nebraska onto southbound Broadway. The man was struck while in the crosswalk, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with major injuries to his legs. But the man later suffered bleeding in his brain, and late Sunday night remained in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup, a 58-year-old Vallejo resident, was cited at the scene for driving with a suspended license. His vehicle was impounded.

Police said it does not appear that speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Vallejo Police Department's Traffic Division at (707) 648-4329.
