Man, 22, Dead After San Jose Crash

Police said they responded to North 1st Street near Highway 280 around 2:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision.

A 22-year-old man is dead after his car crashed near downtown San Jose early Sunday morning.

Police said they responded to North 1st Street near Highway 280 around 2:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision. When they arrived, police found the young man inside a severly damaged blue BMW.

The car had apparently been traveling south on South 1st Street when it collided with two light poles and overturned.

Although emergency personnel arrived on scene, the man was pronounced dead around 3:05 a.m.

Police said that they did not believe alcohol or drugs had been involved and that no other vehicle was involved in the accident.

The incident is the city's second traffic fatality of the new year.
