Man Dies Following Police Tasering

A San Leandro man has died following a Tasering by police on Sunday outside a hamburger stand

A man zapped with a Taser by San Leandro police outside a San Leandro hamburger stand has died.

The man, described only as being in his early 30s, refused to leave a Nation's Giant Hamburgers in downtown San Leandro at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Patrols reported he was "acting strangely and scaring customers," according to reports.

Officers used a stun gun to subdue him but said his health deteriorated after he was put in handcuffs, according to reports. At some point following a struggle he passed out. Paramedics provided first aid, but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the Oakland Tribune.

The cause of death is still unknown, and the man's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

San Leandro police are investigating the incident.
