Man Injured In Shooting After Vehicle Collision in Pittsburg

A man was injured in a shooting that occurred after a vehicle collision in Pittsburg on Tuesday afternoon and prompted the lockdown of a nearby elementary school, police said.

Officers responded shortly before 3 p.m. to a report of an altercation near East 10th Street and learned that two vehicles had collided at 10th and Black Diamond streets.

A few blocks away, officers found the man who had been shot in the upper arm. He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek to be treated for his injuries, which are not life-threatening, according to police.

Witnesses told police that the suspect fled on foot east toward Harbor Street. The suspect remains at large and police did not immediately release any description of the alleged shooter.

The collision and shooting occurred near Marina Vista Elementary School on East Eighth Street, which was scheduled for the release of students for the end of the school day. As a precaution, the school was briefly placed on lockdown, police said.

Once the area was confirmed to be clear, the campus reopened and parents were allowed to pick up students.
