Man Killed, Another in Critical From Shooting Near Gilroy Park

A man was killed and a second victim was injured in a shooting near a Gilroy park Tuesday evening, a police sergeant said.

The two victims were found each suffering multiple gunshot wounds outside Las Animas Park at Mantelli Drive and Wren Avenue at about 6:15 p.m., police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said.

One of the victims, a 68-year-old man, was pronounced dead there, Espinoza said. The other was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition.

Espinoza said that the shooting followed a fight in the park and that one or two suspects may have fled in a white compact car last seen driving on Wren Avenue.
