Man Suspected in San Jose DUI Crash Death Arrested

A 63-year-old man who was behind the wheel of a car that struck and killed a woman crossing the street with her son in San Jose Friday night was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said today.

San Jose resident Deborah Parson, 45, and her 14-year-old son were walking west on Taylor Street around 9:30 p.m. when they crossed North 13th Street in the crosswalk, police said.

San Jose resident Gilberto Vasquez was driving south on North 13th Street when he struck Parson. Parson's son was not hit.

Investigators believe Vasquez may have run a red light before hitting Parson, who died at a nearby hospital.

Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter involving alcohol.
