Man With Knife Aiming to Kill a Cop is Detained at Oakland International Airport: Sheriff

A man armed with a large knife who said he intended to kill a police officer was detained shortly after he arrived at Oakland International Airport early Sunday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

The man was confronted by airport deputies about 8:45 a.m. after he was seen looking inside sheriff's patrol vehicles just outside the airport terminal, the sheriff''s office said.

After being confronted by deputies, the man dropped the knife then picked it up again. Airport deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and took the man into custody without force, sheriff's officials said.

The suspect later told deputies his intent was to kill a police officer.

Deputies recovered a knife about 8 inches long with a 4-inch blade, the sheriff's office said.

No injuries were reported, and the suspect's identity was not provided.
