Man Arrested in Fatal BART Shooting

A 20-year-old man is being jailed on suspicion of murder for the fatal shooting of a man outside of the downtown Hayward BART station.

BART Police Chief Gary Gee says Kentwan Hawkins of Hayward is being held without bail for the Oct. 13 killing of 18-year-old Joshua Ligons.

Gee says Hawkins shot Ligons, his intended target, and a 77-year-old man who was an innocent bystander. The bystander survived.

Police say Hawkins had a handgun when he was arrested Sunday. He is being held on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and enhancements alleging that he personally used a firearm.

Hawkins is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at the Hayward Hall of Justice.
