Mardi Gras Party In the Fillmore Is Going to be Wild

The good times are going to roll in the Fillmore tonight.

Looking for some way to celebrate Fat Tuesday other than swimming in Abita and wearing your best green-gold-and-purple ensemble? Look no further than San Francisco's Fillmore District and the folks there walking on stilts.

The third annual "Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore" festival is tonight, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the San Francisco Appeal online newspaper. Jugglers, stilt walkers, face painters and tunes from Bobbie Webb and the Smooth Blues Crew will take over the Fillmore Center Plaza for a bead-throwing ball that's family-friendly.

Fillmore Street will be closed from Geary to Eddy Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Then, until midnight, you can enjoy discounted drinks and food from numerous businesses who are participating in turning the Fillmore into French Quarter for a night (but not the shirt-lifting-for-beads kind of quarter).

In order to grab cheap Abita beer, waffles, and po' boys from spots like 1300 on Fillmore, Sheba Piano Lounge, Gussies Chicken and Waffles, Yoshi's Jazz Club and more, grab a $5 wrist band at Fat Tuesday on Fillmore, and be ready to laissez roulez les bon temps until midnight tonight.
