Marin County Emergency Crews Save Bicyclist Who Plummeted Into 35-Foot Ravine

Emergency crews in Marin County rescued a cyclist who took a roughly 35-foot plunge off a ravine on Saturday morning.

According to Jeremy Pierce, battalion chief with the Marin County Fire Department, a 60-year-old man was cycling uphill slowly near 3800 Lucas Valley Road. However, he reduced his speed too much, and his bike tipped over a steep drop off.

Pierce said the man’s cycling shoes did not clip to the pedals so he tumbled off the road, while the cycle stayed where it was.

Crews from the Skywalker Ranch, Marinwood and Marin County fire departments used a rope to get the man to safety, Pierce said, but he suffered at least one broken bone and a motley of cuts and bruises.
