A home under construction in Marin County collapsed Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

No one was inside the home on Pine Drive in Fairfax when it collapsed, according to the Ross Valley Fire Department.

The home crumbled into a pile of debris when the edge of the road next to it failed.

Investigators say the recent rain didn't help but most likely excavation that was recently done near the home is to blame.

"The water probably did have an impact on it, but it looks like there was some excavation that took place on the site," Fairfax building official Mark Lockaby said. "It looks like the cause of the collapse is due to the excavation."
