San Francisco Publisher McSweeney's to Transition Into Nonprofit Organization

McSweeney's is making a big change, turning into a nonprofit organization with help from readers.

The San Francisco-based publisher, founded in 1998 by writer Dave Eggers, is throwing a party at Green Apple Books on the Park called Festive Occasion on Saturday. Proceeds from the event will help the publisher's transition.

The evening will include a preview of "This Bridge Will Not Be Gray," a picture book about the Golden Gate Bridge authored by Eggers and Tucker Nichols.

A full slate of books and publications are on the docket for the rest of the year and next thanks in part to a recent, successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $257,080.
