“Milk” Screenwriter to Bring Prop 8 to Broadway

The Academy Award-winning writer who brought the world "Milk" is set to bring the story of Proposition 8 to Broadway.

Dustin Lance Black will bring the drama of the fight to overturn gay marriage in California in the form a play that will be directed Tony Award-winning actor and director Joe Mantello.

The project is still in the early stages, with Black putting together a script based on the transcripts of the trial.

But about a dozen prominent figures from the trial, including the defense counsel, couples involved with the suit against California and their lawyers.

The play will simply be called "8" and casting will be announced later. It is first scheduled to be performed at a fundraiser in New York City on Sept. 19.
