Millbrae Considers Outsourcing Cops

The city could save $1.5 million annually.

The city of Millbrae is considering a proposal that would follow in the footsteps of Half Moon Bay and San Carlos.

City leaders are investigating the pros and cons of outsourcing its police services to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department.

Millbrae has struggled economically for years, but Mayor Daniel Quigg said this move could save the city $1.5 million annually. Current Millbrae officers would also be allowed to work as deputies or take other positions at the Sheriff's Department.

Some residents have concerns about whether it will impact their safety. Quigg is asking them to attend a town meeting about the issue Saturday at 9 a.m. in order to get their questions answered.
