‘Million Dollar Listing San Francisco’ Spotlights ‘Starchitect’ Stanley Saitowitz

Bravo TV

The latest episode of Bravo's "Million Dollar Listing San Francisco" dubs local designer Stanley Saitowitz a "starchitect."

Saitowitz and his firm Natoma Architects Inc. created the luxury condominiums at 8 Octavia in San Francisco that "Million Dollar" realtor Roh Habibi attempts to sell on the episode and has created several residential buildings in the city.

The professor emeritus of architecture at UC Berkeley is also behind a wide range of recognizable properties including San Francisco's W Hotel, San Jose's First United Methodist Tower, and Oakland's Jack London Tower.

According to Curbed, the "Million Dollar" plotline where Saitowitz is painted as a reclusive rock idol who is difficult to reach or get to attend functions promoting buildings that he's designed might have been massaged in typical reality show fashion. The publication also frowned on the episode's portrayal of San Francisco's Bernal Heights as an undesirable neighborhood when real estate sites like Redfin display otherwise.

But Saitowitz's portfolio is still well worth checking out, if only to learn how many of them are already familiar to the eye.
