The family of Hasanni Campbell will be privately commemorating his sixth birthday today, while volunteers are organizing another search for the missing Fremont boy on Saturday.
Hasanni's grandmother, Pamela Clark, said the family "is just in seclusion" today.ad originally planned to hold an event for the boy, but it was called off out of respect to the family.
However, Miller said that organizers will be searching Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont starting at 8 a.m. Ssues, Miller said.
More than 75 people have already signed up to join the search, according to Miller. She said 124 people joined the last search, which took place near Lake Elizabeth in Fremont.
Hasanni, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was reported missing from the parking lot of the Shuz of Rockridge shoe store in the 6000 block of College Ave. about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 10 by his stepfather, Louis Ross.
The boy's foster mother, Jennifer Campbell, works at the store. Ross, 38, and Campbell, 30, lived with Hasanni and another child, a 1-year-old girl, in Fremont.
On Aug. 28, Oakland police arrested Ross and Campbell and said they were treating the case as a homicide instead of a missing person case.
But the Alameda County District Attorney's Office announced several days later that it wouldn't file charges against Ross and Campbell because of insufficient evidence.
Oakland police have no new tips in the case, and police spokesman Jeff Thomason has said ton't stop looking for him."
