Napoleon the tortoise who escaped from his South Bay home has returned to his owner.
Napoleon’s owner tweeted at NBC Bay Area Tuesday night to let everyone know he made it home.
The tortoise escaped from the backyard of a home on North 4th Street in San Jose Sunday afternoon. The owners were out of the house at the time.
Surveillance video caught the tortoise escaping from the backyard.
The video shows a passerby stopping to move Napoleon so he wouldn't get hit by a car. Another person stopped to take a picture. Later, a couple picked Napoleon up and put him in their car. The owner hopes they had good intentions.
It’s unclear how the tortoise was returned – or why someone picked him up.
