Police are searching for other possible victims after a San Jose city employee was arrested on suspicion of molesting a minor.
Mark Joseph West, who was hired at the Camden Community Center as a part-time worker in 2011, was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on July 16. West, 25, has been charged with two counts of soliciting lewd material to/from a minor and four counts of molesting a minor.
Police said West, who also served as a recreation leader for the city, met the alleged victim through social media in January. It is believed West developed a relationship with the teenager.
"We take this very seriously, which is why we screen our employees, finger print check them," said David Vossbrink, San Jose's director of communications. "This person didn't have any prior convictions on his record."
West has been placed on administrative leave pending the police investigation.
City officials said they are not sure if the alleged victim attended any programs at the Camden Community Center. Anyone who may have information on more victims are asked to contact the San Jose Police Department at 408-277-4102.
