“Mrs. Doubtfire” Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested: Police

A suspect dubbed by police as the "Mrs. Doubtfire" bank robbery suspect has been arrested and identified as a 31-year-old man from Sand City.

Santa Cruz Police Lt. Bernie Escalante said Brandon Calantoc was taken into custody on Monday stemming from the Apr. 3 bank robbery of a bank on Morrissey Boulevard, and casing  Rabo Bank while acting suspiciously. Police added the charge of wearing a disguise while committing a bank robbery.

Pictures released of the bank robbery show a stocky robber wearing a blond wig, locket and glasses exiting the bank.

On Monday, Carmel police ended up stopping Calantoc to ask him quesitons about a series of car burglaries in that city. Police found drugs in the car, along with pieces of stolen mail and credit cards, Escalante said.

Officers also found "items of evidence" including a purse and locket that matched photos from the Santa Cruz robbery, and notified Santa Cruz police, Escalante said.

Calantoc was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for robbery, the enhancement of wearing a disguise while committing the robbery, committing a felony while out on bail, and for the attempted robbery at the Rabo Bank.

Calantoc was out on bail from Monterey County for two counts of burglary, possession of stolen property, theft of access card data, possession of burglary tools, and conspiracy. 

Calantoc’s bail was set at $600,000 for both incidents.

Efforts to reach him were not successful.
