Muni Riders Suffer Power Outage, Tree Down

Muni riders had a rough morning on Friday with service at a standstill for five hours in the Castro because of a power outage, and then a tree fell down affecting the lines in North Beach.

Power went out about 1 a.m. at the Duboce Junction in  San Francisco’s Castro District. Muni ran bus shuttles from the Castro station to the Embarcadero station.  But all was clear at 5:47 a.m. when the power was restored. A spokesperson said the outage was due to a defective connector linking the train to an overhead wire.

Then, about 5:30 a.m., a tree fell down in North Beach at Columbus Avenue and Vallejo Street, taking down part of the Muni line there. Crews worked hard, while power was shut off, to remove the downed tree.
