An East Bay newborn needs a name, and his mom is no help — she's busy caring for the little guy.
The baby baboon was born April 1 at the Oakland Zoo, and has already taken his first steps.
The zoo is celebrating with its first-ever online naming contest — and it's tied to a fundraiser.
Here are the three name choices: "Muriu" meaning "son" in Swahili, "Maliki" or "king” and "Mazi” which means "sir." Each vote costs $2. The money will be spent on the zoo animals.
