The city of Watsonville is facing a strange dilemma: City leaders have to decide what to do with a new island.
The floating "piece of wetland," as the Mercury News described it, appeared in Pinto Lake after last weekend's storm. The 200-foot long chunk of land and trees broke free after it was buffeted by high winds and waves.
"Pinto Lake is 8,000 years old, so it's constantly changing," park manager Patricia McQuade told the newspaper.
There was some concern when the island briefly drifted in front of the lake's boat launch. The city says, if the island doesn't "take root," it will have to be anchored.
