Noisy Neighborhoods Driving San Franciscans Nuts

Constant Loudness Causing Physical, Psycological Harm

Living in San Francisco is putting the health of nearly one in six residents at risk.

The San Francisco Public Health Department said noise is so loud and so constant in neighborhoods like South of Market and the Tenderloin that it is causing psychological and physical harm.

Noise can add to people's stress level, which can contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease, depression and digestion problems.

The city is looking into a noise ordinance that would set new standards for allowable noise levels.

It is also looking into measures to reduce traffic -- one of the main causes of noise in the city.
