North Bay Dog Thrower Pleads No Contest to Felony Animal Cruelty Charge

A woman who was caught on camera throwing a pug dog to the ground last year in Fairfield pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty Monday in Solano County Superior Court, prosecutors said.

Brandi Chin was arrested on Jan. 6 in Vallejo, after a police investigation into a video that was taken on Dec. 19 in Fairfield prompted the District Attorney's Office to file charges against her, according to police.

In the video, Chin was seen throwing a pug during a dispute with her boyfriend, causing the dog to hit the ground and roll several times. Chin also hit and choked the dog, prosecutors said.

After her arrest, officers took possession of the dog, which is named Benny, and gave it to Solano County Humane Animal Services. An exam by a veterinarian determined Benny was not hurt and was in good health, according to police.

Benny was ultimately placed in a foster home.

Chin is scheduled to be sentenced in court on Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m., prosecutors said.
