Vallejo authorities are asking for the public's help in catching the suspects in the shooting of a young girl last weekend.
No arrests have been made in a gunbattle Sunday night in which the young girl was critically injured after she was caught in the crossfire as her mother happened to be driving in the area of the shootout, police said.
The shooting has rattled community members, who not only want the shooters brought to justice but want to help find new solutions to prevent violence in the first place.
"We’re here today to say that this kind of behavior is unacceptable," Vallejo resident and Californians for Safety and Justice Executive Director Tinisch Hollins said Thursday.
The girl was struck by one bullet and initially listed in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.
Another bullet from the shootout pierced a wall of a family’s home and almost hit an 8-year-old boy sitting on a sofa.
"It was a really close call," the boy's mother said, preferring not to be identified. "I haven’t gathered my thoughts completely."

A bullet also hit resident Mario Bernal’s truck, which was parked outside his home. He says the neighborhood has become so dangerous, he keeps his kids inside all the time.
Vallejo Mayor Andrea Sorce said this goes beyond just finding the shooters in this case. She talked Thursday about her overall public safety plans.

"I will be working with the city manager, the chief of police and the department to ensure that we have developed and implemented strategies to reduce violence and that the community is at the table," she said.
The community leaders also talked about trying to bring together federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to discuss efforts and resources needed as well as prevention strategies. They also looked to better highlight groups that are already on the ground trying to make a difference.
