Oakland book publisher and distributor AK Press is turning to the public for help to rebuild the business after a devastating March 21 warehouse fire.
AK Press' unit on 23rd Street in Oakland sustained water and smoke damage. The City of Oakland red-tagged the building on Tuesday with a notice stating that it is unsafe to occupy.
According to the website, AK Press is a worker-run collective that publishes radical, anarchist books. It was founded in Scotland in 1987.
As of this writing, a GoFundMe campaign to help AK Press and more than 30 affected neighbors has raised $21,352 of a $150,000 goal.
