The city of Oakland is now facing 130 homicides so far this year, breaking a five-year record when the number was at 127.
A woman was stabbed to death and two men fatally shot within 90 minutes early Friday in different parts of the city, police said.
The Oakland Tribune reports that in 2006, there were 148 homicides. There were 127 in 2007.
Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said officers went to the 800 block of Mead Street about 1 a.m. to find two victims suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. They were identified as: Darrell Armstrong, 21, of Oakland and Keith Davis, 19, of El Sobrante. No arrests were made and a motive is unknown.
About two hours later at 3 a.m., she said officers were sent to an apartment at 5800 Walnut St., where they found a woman who had been fatally stabbed. A man, who had stab wounds on his hands, was there and was taken in for questioning.
