A school in Oakland is rocking the Bay Area and the musical theater world.
Students at Oakland School for the Arts on Thursday became the first amateur group in the world to perform the musical "School of Rock" off Broadway.
"Once in a lifetime chance for these kids," director Michael Berry said. "We're just excited and ready to rock San Francisco."
The rare performance held in San Francisco's Curran Theater also attracted Gov. Jerry Brown.
"We're very excited," Brown said
The honor of performing the musical came with immense pressure. On top of that, it usually takes seven months to prepare. The Oakland students just needed seven weeks.
"It's a huge deal," said Gretta Losee-Unger, a student director. "It's been super crazy and super exciting all at the same time."

Cast members and productions crews said they are trying to stay loose for the fun musical.
"It's like a reality check," student Jack Isaacson-Brewster said. "Like wait, this is what I'm doing. This is so cool. This is what I want to be doing."
