Officer Involved Shooting Started as Noise Complaint

A deadly officer involved shooting in San Francisco over the weekend started with a conflict over the volume level of a stereo.

It ended with police shooting and killing a tenant of a Tenderloin residential hotel who police say confronted officers with a weapon.

Police were called to the Granada Hotel at about 11:10 a.m. Sunday.

Managers said they tried to get a man to turn down the volume on their own but said instead the man decided to throw his speakers out his seventh floor window.

When police arrived, they went with the manager to the man's room.  They said they saw a weapon and that following "an altercation" they was forced to shoot the man.

Police did not release what kind of weapon the man was holding, but said there was more than one weapon in the room.

The still unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Per police policy, the shooting is being investigated by the Police Department's internal affairs and homicide units and by the district attorney's office.
