1 Boater Dead, 1 Missing, 1 Rescued in Tomales Bay

One boater is dead, another is missing and a third was found alive at the mouth of Tomales Bay in Marin County Monday morning, a National Park Service spokesman said.

The three were aboard a 20-foot boat believed to be a fishing vessel when a distress call was made between 8 and 9 a.m., park service spokesman John Dell'Osso said.

"There was no indication life vests were in use," Dell'Osso said.

One boater was rescued at Tomales Point and the deceased boater was recovered from the water, Dell'Osso said. The search for the missing boater was still underway as of 2:30 p.m.

Water currents at the mouth of Tomales Bay move in different directions, Dell'Osso said.

The Marin County Fire Department, Marin County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard and the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District responded to the incident, Dell'Osso said.

The coast guard planned to keep a search crew out on the water overnight. Additional crews are scheduled to resume the search on Tuesday morning.
