One Dead After Fremont Shooting; Manhunt Underway for Homicide Suspect

Fremont police are searching for a man who is a suspect in a homicide after finding a person who was shot and killed in a residence early Monday morning.

Police said a call came in around 12:30 a.m. Monday reporting shots fired in the 43000 block of Charleston Way. Officers arrived to find a victim inside a home, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police described the victim as a 62-year-old South Indian man who was shot and killed in his bedroom. The victim was renting the house with another family unrelated to him. Someone from that family called 911 after hearing gunshots, police said. They added that there was no sign of forced entry, and don't believe this was a random act.

According to police, a perimeter has been set in the neighborhood of the home to search for the suspect, and a drone is helping officers in the attempt to locate the man.

Fremont police said this is the second homicide in the city this year.

No further information is immediately available. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police at (510) 790-6800. Those wishing to remain anonymous can text TIP Fremont PD to 888-777.
