Child Dead, Two Others Hurt in St. Andrew's Church Parking Lot

A 6-year-old girl was struck and killed, while her mother and another woman were seriously injured on Saturday morning, all of which happened in church parking lot in Daly City after Mass.

Identities of the victims and of the driver, a woman thought to be in her 50s, were not immediately released.

But according to North County Fire Authority and Daly City Police Sgt. Michael Barton, the girl, her mother and another woman were struck just before  9 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Southgate Avenue. Parishioners told NBC Bay Area there were many people at church at that time, for Mass and for Catechism class. A few members of the church told NBC Bay Area that they felt that this was simply a horrific, tragic accident.

"It's really like an accident or something," said Aleni Reyes. "I feel so sad for both of them."

"We don't know what happened," Gennis Reyes said. "We just see someone crying for help."

Authorities have not said much about what happened. But in a statement, Barton said that the female driver of a 2007 Toyota minivan who drove into the three was found at the scene and wasn't arrested.

Paramedics treated the three injured victims at the scene and then transported them to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The girl died at the hospital.

The crash is under investigation by Daly City police.
