Palo Alto police arrested Eduardo Alvarez for allegedly assaulting a woman walking on El Camino Real early Saturday morning, authorities said.
A woman in her 30s was reportedly unloading items from her car parked on El Camino Real near Grant Avenue at about 3:20 a.m.
"As she was walking on el Camino real she felt someone touch her buttocks and then she saw a man she didn't know and he pushed her to the ground and touched her genials over her clothing," said Janine De La Vega from the Palo Alto Police Department.
The woman screamed, and her boyfriend came out of the friend's apartment and chased the man to his car a short distance away. The suspect got in the car and drove away eastward on Grant Avenue.
"I think it's pretty shocking, it's not something you usually hear about," Mary Biswal from Palo Alto said. "There are a lot of Stanford students who are always walking out here and it's scary to hear about something like that."
In their investigation, police were able to identify Alvarez and obtain a warrant for his arrest.
He was arrested in East Palo Alto Wednesday afternoon and booked on four felony charges.
