Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Interstate 280 in San Francisco: CHP

A pedestrian identified by police as an assault suspect was hit and killed on northbound Interstate 280 in San Francisco Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As of 5:43 p.m., one lane of northbound I-280 was open at Geneva Avenue where the collision occurred.

Just before 5 p.m., officers responded to the Balboa Muni Station ono reports of an assault, police said. When officers arrived on scene, they saw the suspect flee on foot onto the freeway, where he was struck and killed by a Chevy pickup.

The driver remained at the scene, the CHP said.

The initial assault victim remained at the Muni station and was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Three lanes were blocked for hours, and a traffic alert has been issued by the CHP. All lanes reopened at about 6:45 p.m., the CHP said.
