A person was struck and killed by a southbound train in a tunnel between San Francisco's 22nd Street and Bayshore stations, Caltrain said Friday night.

In a statement, Caltrain said it happened at around 7:30 p.m.

Train 516 was carrying about 96 passengers, Caltrain also shared. No injuries aboard were reported.

Train service was halted in both directions from 7:41 p.m. until the tracks were cleared at 10:08 p.m., Caltrain said.

Train 516 remained in place because of an engine problem and was pushed south to the Bayshore Station by a rescue engine at 10:55 p.m.

Transit police are investigating the fatality, the seventh this year, Caltrain said.
