Petition Drive For Parking Permits Near Mission Peak in Fremont

A popular Fremont hiking area has become too popular -- if not for its own good, than for the good of the people living nearby.

The problem is the parking lot of Mission Peak at the Mission Peak Regional Park Reserve. It fills up quickly so visitors park in the surrounding neighborhood.

But relief may be coming.

The Mercury News reports city council members have agreed to allow a petition drive that may lead to permits for street parking.

East Bay Regional Park District is already looking into expanding the Mission Peak lot to 300 spaces.
