Pit Bull Attacks Oakland Child

A seven-year-old girl was severely injured when a pit bull terrier bit her on the face Sunday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the Oakland Police Department said.

The dog attacked at around 2:45 p.m. at a home on 82nd Avenue. The girl suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries, Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said.

Someone who saw the attack said the dog's owner had just asked the little girl if she wanted to pet the dog in the moments prior to the attack.

The dog was taken away by animal control, she said.

The incident comes at the heels of another pit bull attack on Thursday, when a two-year-old Concord boy was killed when three of his  family's five pit bulls attacked him.

The boy's step-grandfather, 52-year-old Steven Hayashi, was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of child endangerment and possessing  a mischievous animal that causes death, according to a spokesman for Concord  police.
