San Jose may be growing up, literally.
The City Council on Tuesday will consider raising current building height limits up to 35 feet higher in downtown and up to 150 feet higher near Diridon Station.
If skyscrapers grow in height, the city estimates a $4.4 billion increase in construction value, which would lead to $5.5 million more in property tax a year.
The city asked passenger and cargo airlines operating out of Mineta San Jose International Airport to weigh in on how raising skyscraper heights would impact flights. Airlines said they expected minimal impacts.
San Jose is also considering creating a fund to help airlines that feel a financial hit from higher development down the road.
